Dan and Dad's Excellent Adventures

Concerts and NASCAR racing.
This summer while in Sioux City I heard that Nickelback was going to play at the Tyson Event Center and asked Dan if he would be interested in seeing his favorite group live and he of course said yes. So because he had not been to Sioux City and I was willing to see them also, him and I secured some tickets and went. Opening bands were Hinder (not bad), Hoobastank (not bad either) and Chevelle (sucked). Nickelback had an excellent show with great sound, video, lights and pyro.

Dan was ready to see another NASCAR race and Dad was not going to return to Michigan again, so Dad looked at packages for Kansas City and picked one. We traveled to uncle Denny's in Council Bluffs Thursday evening for a sleepover and got to the speedway Friday in time for cup practice and qualifying. Then we made the trek to find the hotel in downtown KC, Mo. That was a difficult task but we "got er done". We also had plans to see some dirt racing at Lakeland Speedway. We felt our way around and actually found the track quickly. We got to see Kelly Shryock win the modified part of the show which included Kenny Wallace and Clint Boyer. Kenny Schrader was in the late model division but didn't qualify for the main. Saturday saw us at the Busch qualifying and race and the opportunity to be on NASCAR live as part of the background crowd. I'm sure we were on but at 2:00 in the afternoon, Debby was not at home to record. Sunday was different as we were in the crowd for the pre-race show and showed up several times and Deb did get it recorded.

Here is a panoramic of the track

Nobody sat in the seats beside us on Sat or Sun so we had very comfortable seats on turn 4 at the entrance to pit road. J Gordon also had the first pit stall.

Prior to the trackside show, they threw out free stuff. Dan scored a Speed cap and I got a can koozie. In the picture are Kenny Wallace and Jimmie Spencer. Kenny pumps the crowd.

Between the two guys on the left and off the middle
guy's right elbow is me with my face behind the
ballaster and under the square cooler. Dan is the next face left.

We also got to see Sterling Marlin at an autograph
session at his shirt trailer.
